A woman who stalked Harry Styles has been jailed and banned from his performances.

Harrow Crown Court heard Myra Carvalho, 35, sent 8,000 cards to the singer in less than a month.

She was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty to stalking charges.

Carvalho was also given a 10-year restraining order and told she could not attend any events where Styles would perform.

The court previously heard that Brazilian national Carvalho sent handwritten letters to the 30-year-old singer while he was in the UK and ordered a series of cards for him online which were sent to his address.

Prosecutors said that of the 8,000 cards sent, some were wedding cards, and two of the letters were personally delivered to Mr Stiles' address.

Court documents show that Carvalho has been staying at a backpackers hostel in Earls Court, west London, since arriving in the UK in December.

The court was told her family were unaware she had visited the country.

Carvalho admitted a charge of stalking involving serious alarm or distress at Harrow Crown Court at Hendon Magistrates Court in London.

She was also ordered not to contact Styles, directly or indirectly, and told not to enter an area of north-west London described in court, a court official said.

She must also pay a victim surcharge of £134.
