Steve Martin and Martin Short get the best cash back with Wells Fargo credit cards

BBDO NY launches its first-ever campaign for Wells Fargo consumer credit cards, starring Steve Martin and Martin Short.

In their new campaign, “Be a 2%er,” comedy legends and real-life friends Steve Martin and Martin Short dramatize the benefits of unlimited 2% cash back on the Active Cash credit card. Each movie features two people casually shopping or dining, and Active Cash cardholder Marty is always happy to pay knowing he's getting unlimited 2% cash back on his purchases. In contrast, Steve was equally happy not to pay at all.

At the heart of the campaign is the idea of becoming a “2%er”—an inclusive club of pragmatic cardholders who appreciate the unlimited 2% cash back they receive on purchases made with the Wells Fargo Active Cash Credit Card.

“We wanted to create something fun and likeable that people would remember and connect with the Wells Fargo card, which was easier said than done, but with Steve Martin and Martin Short as our “Leaders definitely make our jobs easier,” said Greg Ketchum, executive creative director at BBDO.

“Launching in 2021, Active Cash brings unparalleled value and simplicity to the credit card rewards ecosystem,” said Krista Phillips, executive vice president, consumer credit card and consumer loan marketing leader, Wells Fargo. Customers say goodbye to complicated rewards programs “Steve Martin and Martin Short are the best of the best, and who better to represent our best cash back credit card than this iconic duo? “

This is not only the first work launched by BBDO NY for Wells Fargo consumer cards, but also the first time Wells Fargo has collaborated with Steve Martin and Martin Short, and the first time the two have performed a commercial work together. Every script, scene and joke is created collaboratively, striving to make the work as warm, personal and likeable as the comedians themselves.

The campaign launches across TV, OLV, digital, social and owned properties.
