Qatar Airways launches two Avios-earning Visa credit cards in the US


  • Join the waitlist for Qatar Airways' new Visa card and earn extra Avios and benefits for frequent flyers.

US residents will soon have a new option for earning Avios frequent flyer miles. Oneworld alliance member Qatar Airways has launched its waiting list for its new co-branded Visa credit card.

What do we know?

The airline has confirmed that there will be two versions of the card, with launch planned for “early May”. Potential card applicants can now join the official waiting list to be the first to learn more and earn additional Avios in addition to the standard sign-up bonus.

Applicants who join the waitlist and are approved for the card within 30 days of issuance will be eligible to receive an additional 5,000 bonus Avios points on the Visa Signature version and an additional 10,000 points on the Visa Infinite version, in addition to the standard welcome bonus. Avios bonus points.


Which American Airlines credit cards earn Avios?

Chase offers three such cards.

The cards will be issued in conjunction with Cardless, which recently provided co-branded credit card products for TAP Air Portugal and avianca. Currently, there are three co-branded airline credit cards in the U.S. that allow you to earn Avios. All three cards are offered by Chase and come with a sizable welcome bonus, currently 85,000 Avios.

More details will be announced in the coming days, but the cards are expected to offer frequent flyer benefits as well as additional Avios and airline membership earning opportunities.

Who will benefit from this?

The cards are aimed at frequent travelers flying with Qatar Airways, oneworld airlines and codeshare partners. The new product also gives U.S. customers an additional option to earn Avios points, which can often be transferred to other airline programs. As an airline miles currency, Avios stand out because they are used by so many different airlines.

More airlines are using Avios for their frequent flyer programmes.

Although most commonly associated with British Airways Executive Club, there are now six airlines that use Avios to varying degrees. The International Airlines Group (IAG) has the largest number of airlines, with British Airways (Executive Club), Iberia Plus, Aer Lingus (AerClub) and Vueling Club all earning Avios points.

Finnair is the latest airline to join Avios after launching them earlier this year. While Avios can already be earned and used on Finnair flights and program partners, the points have not yet been transferred to other airline loyalty programs.
