How to successfully combine Apple ID balance and gift cards for purchases over $2,000?

Therefore, the Apple ID balance is capped at $2,000. My Apple ID balance is $1,901 and I have two $100 gift cards that can be used to purchase an iPad worth $2,030.

Tried using balance and two gift cards = first gift card declined

Attempting to request a second gift card before the first = second gift card declined

Try exchanging the third gift card for one of the two = third gift card declined

Sales couldn't figure it out, transferred me to customer service, they couldn't figure it out, transferred me to the iTunes store, they confirmed there was a balance on the gift card and it should work. Switching back to sales, same problem.

Three hours wore on my patience, and I was forced to pay for the remainder using my Apple account balance and my own money.

Are we really not allowed to combine Apple account balances over $2,000 with gift cards? I mean, my next purchase will be a Mac and I want to combine the account balance and the gift card.

The next morning, I successfully added all three gift cards to my Apple account balance.

Has anyone experienced something similar before and knows how to combine Apple ID balance and gift cards for purchases over $2,000?
