Police investigate Domino's receipt incident that included remarks insulting Islam

Balik Island: Penang Police confirmed that they had received a report regarding provocative acts that insulted Islam.

This came after receipts printed with remarks insulting Islam went viral.

Superintendent Camalul Rizal Genal, Southwest District Police Chief, said that around 8 a.m. today, he found a photo of a receipt uploaded by X user @UPDATE1111.

He said a complaint was filed with the police yesterday.

The incident occurred on Kenari Street in Bayan Lepas near here.

“Police investigation revealed that an order was placed through the Domino's Pizza app at 3:05 p.m. and included an offensive word in the notes section.

“This case is being investigated under Article 298 of the Penal Code and Article 14 of the Misdemeanor Law,” he added.

Mr Kamarul called on the public not to speculate about the incident.

Late last night, Bayan Lepas state assemblyman for Amana Datuk Azrul Mahathir Aziz called for calm following the provocation insulting Islam.

He said people should leave the matter to the authorities.

Azrul said in a Facebook post that many people mistakenly believe that the derogatory remarks printed on pizza restaurant receipts were the work of the restaurant.

He said he went to the eatery and Telukbahan Police Station to receive explanations.

“Many people, like me, thought this receipt was issued by the cashier at the pizza place.

“But that was through online ordering.

“There is a notes section on the receipt that was misused by the provocateur,'' he said.

Azrul, who is deputy speaker of the state assembly, thanked those who filed police reports.

“I heard that the police have started an investigation.

“I hope people will remain calm and not be easily upset by provocative acts that insult Islam.
