Domino's Pizza MY responds after customer calls Islam “stupid”


Fast food chain Domino's Pizza Malaysia has filed a police report after a customer allegedly mocked Islam in an online order.

In the order, the customer called Muslims “stupid” and complained that his area was very noisy.

A Domino's Pizza spokesperson said the company was disappointed in the customers and staff who shared photos of their receipts online. The spokesperson added that the company does not tolerate discrimination or attacks of any kind and will take appropriate action against customers and their team members.

A spokesperson for Domino's Pizza said in a marketing statement: “We are deeply sorry for the hurtful and rude comments made by our customers when they placed their order. We also apologize for any inconvenience caused by one of our team members sharing this content online, including your personal information. I also regret that I thought it was appropriate to do so.” Interactive reached out. They added:

Two wrongs do not make a right. We are taking appropriate measures with respect to both the customers and team members involved.

He added that he had also reported the matter to local police.

A photo of the receipt was shared online on May 15th. Azrul Mahathir Aziz, a Malaysian politician and deputy speaker of the Penang State Legislative Assembly, said in a Facebook post that he went to the affected Domino's Pizza store for clarification and went to the police station for further explanation. He said he went.

Azrul added that he hopes those who are trying to provoke 3R will be arrested soon. According to Azrul, this is particularly the case since the police launched an investigation under Articles 298 and 14 of the Penal Code.

Article 298 of the Penal Code includes intent to hurt a person's religious feelings and prescribes a penalty of up to one year in prison, a fine, or both.

Article 14, on the other hand, is a misdemeanor law.

There have been a number of similar cases recently where brands and customers alike have been accused of racist comments.

Most recently, local fast food brand Dalsa Fried Chicken has seen brand sentiment plummet following its recent misstep of using the phrase “Type C” in response to customer comments on social media.

“Type C” is a derogatory term used to refer to the Chinese community.

Dalsa Fried Chicken has since acknowledged the incident and issued an apology, saying the restaurant welcomes all visitors from all walks of life, regardless of race or religion.

The company said the mistake was unintentional and to prevent it from happening again, it would not respond to future issues that do not involve other parties.
