Faculty FCU Visa Cash Back Credit Card* Compare to Citi Double Cash® Card

The Citi Double Cash® Card offers a more generous rewards program than Visa Cash Rewards for Teachers. Plus, in addition to 2% cash back on all purchases, you also get a welcome bonus — 1% back on purchase and 1% back when you pay it off.

Just like the Teacher Visa, there is no annual fee with Citi Double Cash. But unlike Teacher Visa Cashback, you don’t need to be a union member to qualify for this card.

While the Citi Double Cash® Card doesn't offer an introductory APR on purchase, its balance transfer offer goes even further: 0% introductory APR on balance transfers for 18 months. Thereafter, the standard variable annual interest rate will be 19.24% – 29.24%, depending on creditworthiness. Transfers completed within 4 months of account opening are subject to an introductory balance transfer fee of $5 or 3%, whichever is greater. Thereafter, the fee will be 5% of each transfer (minimum $5). Please note that if you complete a balance transfer using this card, you will forfeit the purchase grace period.

While the Discover it® Cash Back is slightly more complex than the Teacher Visa Cash Back, it offers greater reward potential. Through Discover it® cash back, you can enjoy 5% cash back on daily purchases at different locations every quarter. Once activated, the maximum purchase per quarter can be up to US$1,500. Plus, all other purchases automatically earn unlimited 1% cash back. The card also comes with a welcome bonus offer: Discover will automatically match all cash back earned by card members at the end of their first year. There is no minimum spend or maximum reward.

Those looking to fund larger purchases or transfer balances may also be attracted to Discover it® Cash Back, as it offers an introductory APR of several months: 15 months on purchases and qualifying balance transfers 0% introductory APR. Then, the standard tax rate of the 17.24% – 28.24% variable applies. Balance transfer fees can be up to 5% of the transfer amount.

A note about Discover it® Cash Back is that the 5% bonus category has a quarterly spending limit of $1,500, and they need to be activated each quarter. Additionally, unless your purchase is timed to match a rotation category, Discover it® Cash Back only gives you a 1% bonus rate compared to the 1.5% bonus rate you get with the Teacher Card.

The Teachers Visa Cash Back and Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card both offer 1.5% cash back on everyday purchases with no annual fee (rates and fees). However, with the Quicksilver Cash Rewards Card, you can also earn 5% cash back on hotel and car rental bookings through Capital One Travel.

New card members who spend over US$500 within 3 months after opening an account will also receive a one-time cash reward of US$200.
