93-year-old Portland man pickpocketed; thief used credit card to buy $100 gift card

Earlier this month, a 93-year-old Portland man was pickpocketed in Northeast Portland after thieves used his credit card to purchase Fred Meyer gift cards, causing hundreds of dollars in damage.

The Portland Police Bureau said on May 9, three men pickpocketed the victim in a Costco parking lot in the 4800 block of Northeast 138th Avenue.

The suspect removed the wallet from the victim's left rear pocket before running away.

A short time later, the men used the victim's credit card to purchase hundreds of dollars in gift cards at the Fred Meyer store in the 6600 block of Northeast Glisan Street, police reports said.

Upon further investigation, detectives learned that the suspect had committed similar crimes in the Seattle area.

PPB is now hoping the public can help identify the suspects and has released video and images of the suspects.

In addition to stealing the 93-year-old man's wallet, the video shows the suspect attempting more pickpockets and searching the parking lot for more victims.

Anyone with information about this case, or anyone who believes they may have been a victim, is asked to contact Detective Jordan Zaitz at jordan.zaitz@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 24-911109.
