Nelly Korda shoots 10 at U.S. Women's Open, Paige Spiranac gives three-word response | Mirror Online

Nelly Korda's bid to win her second major championship of the year at the U.S. Women's Open is all but over after she shot a 10 on the third hole.

Nelly Korda's dream season took a shocking turn Thursday when she got off to a disastrous start in her bid for the U.S. Women's Open title, shooting a 10 on the third hole of the championship.

The 25-year-old has won six of his past seven starts, including the Chevron Championship at Carlton Woods in April to claim his first major title of the year. Her dominance in the women's competition even surpassed that of men's world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

However, the Florida native's hopes of back-to-back major wins were dashed after a poor start at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania. Starting on the back nine, she bogeyed the first hole and then experienced absolute disaster on the 161-yard par-3 12th.

Korda's tee shot landed in the back bunker and her pitch rolled off the putting surface into the creek that protects the front of the green. She was thrown to the fairway on the other side of the water, and on her fourth shot, she hit her chip straight into the zone.

After falling again, Korda's sixth shot went over the hazard, only to catch the slope and roll back. The two-time major champion failed to hit the 12-footer for a 9 and instead hit a 10, certainly costing her a shot at her first U.S. Women's Open title.

Golf influencer Paige Spiranac was one of many fans to react to Korda's shock, taking to social media to simply say: “Golf is hard.”

Korda emerged as the overwhelming betting favorite at the start of the tournament and is now just three spots shy of the bottom spot on the leaderboard, tied for 147th at 10 over par. The event proved challenging for most, with scores soaring above par for many.
