Shuffling tricks that surprise dogs: “Deal him in”


There are countless toys and games to keep an energetic dog entertained, but who needs all those gadgets when all that’s really needed is a deck of cards?

Food blogger Emily Meyers, 29, was playing a card game at her home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, when she noticed her golden retriever, Puffin, was fascinated by the movement of the cards.

Meyers wasn't expecting such an enthusiastic response from Puffin, and she couldn't help but share it on TikTok (@garlicheadrecipes) with the caption: “Just get rid of him.”

The clip delighted social media users and in just a few days it was viewed more than 2.5 million times and received more than 301,700 likes.

“I was actually playing a card game and as I was shuffling the cards, I noticed he raised his head. He wasn't scared, just wagging his tail like he thought I wanted to play a game with him,” Meyers explain.

“I set up the camera to get a better angle and was lucky enough to capture his funny poses and playful expression. The anticipatory drag of his arms was my favorite part. He always had a very cute and goofy personality , this video captures that perfectly.”

It's probably not surprising to see Golden Retrievers get so excited about the simplest of techniques, as they are known for their playful and energetic nature. The American Kennel Club (AKC) says their puppy behaviors never really leave them and they carry over into adulthood.

Mostly, Meyers posts about food and drink recipes on social media, but every now and then, she also delights her fans with videos of her two golden retrievers, Puffin and Phoebe. While her recipe ideas are always a hit, Puffin has definitely become a fan favorite.

Meyers was surprised by the response to her video on social media, but she “didn't expect” it would attract so much attention.

She continued: “So many people have commented that the video made them happy and we received over 2 million views in one weekend. I'm so excited to be able to use Puffin's funny demeanor to bring smiles to people's faces. Who would have thought that a puffin could be fascinated by a deck of cards? TikTok users loved seeing him get excited about the owner shuffle, with many begging Meyers to show him more tricks.

The viral post already has more than 750 comments, with one person joking: “Show him a card shuffler haha ​​he'll lose his mind.”
