Fanatics and Sotheby's are launching a trading card marketplace

Fanatics and Sotheby's want to help you upgrade your deck.

The companies will launch a new platform this summer that will give collectors access to the rarest and most valuable trading cards in all sports. The online marketplace, called Fanatics Collect, will offer cards worth $100,000 or more and other coveted memorabilia through fixed-price listings and high-end auctions.

“This unique partnership reflects the hobby's growing stature and cultural influence and makes these highly sought-after cards incredibly accessible to potential collectors around the world,” Fanatics Collect CEO Nick Bell said in a statement. “We are excited to combine our knowledge of high-end sports cards with Sotheby's unparalleled expertise in telling the stories of exceptional artworks and objects. ”

Fanatics began auctioning cards last year after acquiring sports memorabilia dealer PWCC Marketplace. Company executives decided to replace the PWCC brand with Fanatics Collection to enhance the shopping experience. The new marketplace allows sports fans to browse and instantly purchase hundreds of thousands of collectibles. In addition, Sotheby's holds weekly and monthly live and online auctions. (The auction house launched a sports and contemporary collectibles department in 2022 and has since set several world records with sports memorabilia.)

As a result, the rare item is expected to sell for between $275,000 and $350,000 at the summer auction.

“Through high-end auctions, state-of-the-art exhibitions and exciting events, this collaboration marks an important milestone for the ever-evolving and engaged trading card community,” added Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s Head of Modern Collectibles. “We eagerly look forward to bringing up-and-coming collectors into an exciting new era of innovation and accessibility.”

More information about the upcoming September and December sales will be shared in the coming weeks. Fanatics Collect also plans to launch peer-to-peer transactions, AI concierge services, card scanning and digital collectibles later this year. stay tuned.
