Mobile ID: How do New Yorkers use digital ID cards?

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the launch of New York Mobile ID, a digital version of your state-issued driver's license, learner's permit or non-driver ID. The mobile ID is available for iOS and Android users, and anyone with a valid state-issued ID can download it through Google Play or the App Store.

“We are pleased to provide New Yorkers with this advanced technology to increase convenience and safety,” said Governor Hochul. Accepted at nearly 30 TSA security checkpoints nationwide, the Mobile ID allows users to control the personal information they share.

DMV Commissioner Mark JF Schroeder added, “Now, your ID can be saved on your phone. This provides a secure way to prove your identity without having to dig through your wallet. The app requires users to register a phone number, scan their ID ID and take a selfie for verification. For more information, visit the DMV website.
