Dallas Animal Services offers $150 gift card for large dog adoption through July 4th | STATUS

Dallas, Texas— Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is urging the community to adopt or rescue large dogs as shelters reach critical capacity ahead of the July 4 holiday.

According to a press release from the department, DAS is currently at 161% dog capacity, with 482 dogs sharing 300 kennels. To alleviate overcrowding, 501(c)3 nonprofit partner Friends of Dallas Animal Services is offering a $150 Amazon gift card to the public for the next 150 dogs weighing over 40 pounds. Leave the shelter.

“We had a heartbreaking meeting yesterday morning,” said Assistant Director Mary Martin. “We are left with two empty kennels and we expect to receive hundreds of dogs over the coming week as dogs are scared away from the yards by the fireworks. We are proud of our country and look forward to celebrating the progress we have made. As a nation, the 4th of July is not a fun week for animal welfare, we are facing an incredibly sad week and we are calling on the community to channel their patriotic energy and use it to help us save lives this week. Pick up a big dog, please be our hero.

Dogs weighing over 40 pounds are adopted. After your pet is home for two weeks, you will receive a $150 Amazon gift card via email. Approved rescues will receive a $150 gift card immediately after picking up a dog weighing over 40 pounds. “This is our way of saying thank you for your support and commitment to these animals,” the source said.
